Suzy
Meet Suzy!
Suzy is a very sweet and loving Irish Setter that is around 8 yrs old. She was released to Rescue due to owner illness. Suzy is field bred Irish which accounts for her small size of just around 35 lbs. She was part of a hunting kennel. Her foster mom reports that she loves to be outside and is always on the hunt for squirrels and opossums. Inside she is on the sofa ready to be a lap pup with lots of cuddles. Suzy does have some storm anxiety but her foster mom has found it to be manageable. Suzy gets along well with other dogs, both male and female and is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, as well as, current on heartworm preventative.
Suzy may be small is size but she is big on cuteness and affection. She will make her new family a great companion.

Skye
Meet Skye!
Skye is a 30lb bundle of joy with two loves in life. She was bred for birding so she has a strong prey drive. Indoors, she is a love bug that wants to relax and warm her way into your lap. Once outside, the hunting dog in her takes over. Birds and squirrels get her excited. She will entertain/exercise herself all day long if given the opportunity.
The ideal environment for Skye is someone who can walk her in the morning and evening – long walks for exercise and to do her business. Then enjoy quiet time indoors during the day. This will lessen the prey drive with time as it focuses on connection with her owner while minimizing hunting.
Alternatively Skye would enjoy a home that walks her but also could provide a safe contained environment where Skye can fulfill her desire to hunt and explore when she desired.
Skye’s challenges include the ability to jump a 6 ft wooden fence. She will burst toward a bird/squirrel while walking. A good hold on the leash is required. We are successfully correcting this behavior but a new owner will need to continue this reinforcement. We are teaching that when Skye gives a clue she’s seeing something, a command “slow” is given to break the prey drive focus.
If a smaller version of an Irish setter fits your lifestyle, consider this sweet girl.
